These have all been woven for us exclusively, in the heart of Ireland, introducing lots of new colours and plenty of knops to get excited about.
William Bill was among the first to recognise the value of the rich tones and flecking which is typical of Donegal Tweed - reflecting the gorse heathers and lichens on which the colours were originally based. Woven from 100% pure new wool these cloths will be a pleasure to wear for a long time to come.
One of the very first bunches we wanted to relaunch when we took over Smith Woollens was, of course, the Botany collection.
The name Botany is synonymous with the company and, more importantly, it’s a very large part of what Smith Woollens is all about.
One of the lovely things about this trade is delving into our archive books, some of which are over a 100 years old. If you love tradition, history and heavyweight English cloth, this is as close as you’ll get to what it was like to wear suits at the turn of the 20th Century!!
